A policy may help with:
• Personal belongings such as furniture, clothing, electronics, and other possessions after a covered event.
• Temporary living costs if a covered loss makes the home uninhabitable.
• Personal liability if you are legally responsible for accidentally injuring someone or damaging another person’s property.
The owner’s property policy generally protects the building and the owner’s financial interest. It usually does not replace a tenant’s furniture, clothing, electronics, or other personal contents. GPL does not require renter’s insurance; tenants should decide whether it fits their needs and budget.
If a pipe, appliance, or fixture failure floods part of the home and ruins your belongings, GPL’s property insurance may address covered building damage, subject to the owner’s policy and deductible. It generally does not cover tenant contents. A renter’s policy may provide contents and temporary-living coverage, subject to limits, exclusions, deductibles, and claim rules.
Pricing varies by location, coverage limits, deductible, claims history, and the value of your belongings. Renter’s insurance is often approximately $15–$30 per month. Compare personal-property limits, replacement-cost coverage, liability limits, temporary-living coverage, deductibles, and exclusions. Examples of insurers include Lemonade, Allstate, State Farm, and GEICO Insurance Agency. GPL does not endorse or receive compensation from any insurer listed here.
Report active leaks, running toilets, water stains, electrical problems, heating or cooling failures, and other urgent conditions as soon as you notice them. If safe, take a photo or short video and describe where the problem is, when it started, and whether it is getting worse. Keep receipts and a basic photo inventory of valuable belongings.
